Recently, our School team consisting of 5 students, Abhinav Semwal, Ananya Bisht, Prakshal Jain, Arjit Solanki, and Anshika Puri, participated in the Inter School Llewelyn English Debate and Quiz Competition 2024 which took place at Sherwood College, Nainital.
This event was a three-day long event. The Schools that participated in the Event were as follows, RIMC, Tula’s International School, and St.Jude’s School from Dehradun. Wynberg-Allen and Oak Grove school from Mussoorie, Scindia Kanya Vidyalaya, Gwalior, Bishop Cotton School, Shimla, Sainik School, Ghorakhal, YPS, Patiala, Birla Vidya Mandir, Nainital, Indian Public School, Delhi, Modern School, Delhi and Sherwood College, Nainital. Our students were escorted by Mr. K. Sundriyal, Mrs.P. Sharma, and Mr A. Rawat.
On the 6th of September,2024, an Inter School Quiz Competition took place. 13 Schools participated in this Event. The Quiz began with a Preliminary Round. Six Teams qualified for the Main Round. In the Preliminary Round,a written test comprising of a set of 20 questions was taken. The Questions in this Round covered dominions like Science and Technology, General Awareness, Geography, Sports, and many more. The Teams that qualified for the Main Round were RIMC,Oak Grove School, Modern School, St.Jude’s School, Sainik School, and the Sherwood College.
The Main Quiz comprised 11 rounds which had questions from various topics like Current Affairs, General Awareness, Sports, History, Art and Culture, Geography, Entertainment, Literature, and many more. Some Rounds like ‘Guess from Clues’, ‘Fastest Finger First ‘, ‘Ad Clues’, and ‘Rapid Fire’ were some special Rounds of the Quiz Competition.
Abhinav Semwal and Prakshal Jain from St.Jude’s School emerged as the Winners of the Inter School Llewellyn Quiz Competition.
Modern School, New Delhi as Runners Up.
Sherwood College, Nainital were the Second runner-up in the close-fought Contest.
On the 7th of September,2024,an Inter-School English Debate Competition took place.In this Competition.There were two Qualifying Rounds which took place from which a total of 8 teams qualified for the Main round.
First, an Extempore Round took place in which all the participants were given a topic on the stage and they all had to speak on it for about 2 minutes. Prakshal Jain represented St.Jude’s School in the Extempore Round and spoke on the topic of discipline. Then there was a Turncoat Round as well. Students had to speak both ‘For’ and ‘Against’ the Motion for about 4 minutes. Arjit Solanki represented St.Jude’s School in the Turncoat Round and spoke on the topic, “ Freedom of speech is essential for a Country to grow ’’.
The Teams that qualified for the Main Round were The Indian School, Sherwood College, Scindia Kanya Vidyalaya, RIMC, St. Jude’s School, Wynberg Allen- School, Modern School, and Bishop Cotton School.
The Quarter Final matchups were as follows:-
QF1=Sherwood College(Against) vs The Indian School(For)
QF2=RIMC(Against) vs Scindia Kanya Vidyalaya(For)
QF3=St.Jude’s School(For) vs Wynberg Allen School(Against)
QF4=Modern School(For) vs Bishop Cotton School (Against)
The Topic for the Quarter Finals 1 and 2 was ‘Deep-rooted corruption hinders the percolation of resources’, and the topic for the Quarter Finals 3 and 4 was, Globalisation is killing ethnicity’. St. Jude’s School spoke ‘For’ the Motion on the topic ‘Globalisation is killing ethnicity’ , and was represented by Arjit Solanki, Prakshal Jain, and Anshika Puri.
The Teams that qualified for the Semi-Finals were RIMC, Sherwood College, Modern School, and Bishop Cotton School. The Semi-Finals and Finals took place on the 8th of September,2024.
The Semi-Final matchups were as follows:-
SF1=Sherwood College(For) and RIMC(Against)
SF2=Modern School(For) vs Bishop Cotton School(Against)
The Topic for both the Semi-Finalists was, ‘Prevalent regional wars are heading the world even closer to the threshold of World War’. For the Finals, Bishop Cotton School (For) and Sherwood College (Against) debated on the topic ‘Reservation of all kinds should be abolished in India’ .
Sherwood College emerged as Winner but being the Host School, they handed the Trophy to Bishop Cotton School.
In the Prize Distribution Ceremony, various prizes were awarded to the Winners of both Quizzes and Events. Abhinav Semwal received the award for ‘Keen Quizzer’ and Prakshal Jain received the award of ‘Best Speaker’ in the Quarter Finals for speaking ‘For’ the Motion.
In Conclusion, the Principal in his vote of thanks, Congratulated all the participants for their wonderful performance in both the Quiz and Debate. He thanked all the participating School Principals for sending their teams to Sherwood College. He appreciated and congratulated all the Coaches and Teachers and presented gifts to the teams of each school.
